Meltingpod : Meilleur podcast de l’année 2005 ! Best podcast of the year !!! Where ? Here : « Annie Viglielmo nous a fait voyager en six mois tout autour de la scène rock mondiale ! Beaucoup de travail pour cette passionnée, une présentation très pro et un son parfait, l’esprit Web de ceux qui savent donner… » Nice ! one more time in English : Annie Viglielmo took us on a 6 months voyage (10 exactly !!) around the world rock scene ! A lot of work for this woman with a passion for music. A professional show and a perfect sound, the web spirit from those who know how to give ».
Thanks to Dave Hawkes for this link to Mark Lanegan : have a look on the video « Sideways in reverse »: such a Saints’ ambience…arrgh !

5/12/05 Marseilles : The Angels’ song !

John Brewster, The Angels band‘ guitarist, singer and songwriter of the famous song « Marseilles » is my guest today with Buzz Bidstrup , the drummer, a Meltingpod regular visitor ! The Angels band were in tour in Australia and I called them on Buzz’s cell phone during their interesting activities before playing a show : driving too fast because being late, doing the soundcheck, quickly eating and before springing on stage…answering to Meltingpod and promising to sing Marseilles for Annie !
The first song in the show « Dreambuilder » comes from the first album « The Angels » (released in 1977 by Albert) with Doc Neeson at the vocals.
The new version of Marseilles (released the first time in the album « Face to Face » in 1978) comes from the Angels band’s last live album recorded at the Basement in Sydney in November 2004 (released in 2005).

Meltingpod Connections:
Thanks to Loic Le Meur from the French radio station Europe 2 who chose to promote Meltingpod so friendly. You will find in his website a long version (9mn) of his interview with me.
Thanks to my friend Michael Butler who is playing for me a cool rock song called « Annie » from Copperpot on his last podcast in « the rock and roll geek indie cast and who introduced me to the song « Marseilles »!!
EUCD.info always is fighting against the vote of the DADVSI (examination at the National Assembly December 20 and 21th) : help their action ! help yourself ! this law is totally crazy for everybody ! Luc launched a forum on his website about this subject called the eStalinisme !

27/11/05 The Aborigines love punk and roll !

Lars Wallin from Uddevalla-Sweden is the guest today with some of my favorite Saints and Chris Bailey’s songs from the albums Eternally hours, All fool days, Scarce Saints and Demons. Lars sang in a punk rock band the Strawdogs, is as big Saints’ fan as me, now is playing didgeridoo and touring with an aborigines band from Australia : the White Cockatoo…sometimes he plays The Saints songs with his didgeridoo…you understood why I was attracted…nice meltingpod ! I met him only on the internet through his very interesting website, with a lot of Saints’pics and videos (in 2003 and 2005). I recommand you : Chris Bailey and the local Saints (a bunch of Lars’ friends); the sound is not very good but the show is very exciting. The White Cockatoo’s videos are amazing (tour 2005 : Kunkurra, Tiwi Warrior, Liftaren…). I hope I could do something to divert their European tour until Marseille next year…

14/11/05 Safe between the Angels and the Saints

Buzz Bidstrup, the Angelsband‘s drummer, songwriter, manager and producer, talks with me from Australia about copyrights, labels and agreements to play free music on the internet for non-profit podcasters who promote the bands : more a cool conversation than an classical interview. I played many songs of the Angels’ four first albums : « The Angels-Face to Face-No Exit-Dark Room » (1977 à 80 : Albert Productions) and the Angelsband’s last live album recorded at the Basement in Sidney in November 2004 (released by the Angelsband themselves). That’s Podsafe ?

     back-cover of the last live album…Marseille, nice town…now !!

Meltingpod Connections :
Thanks to Christophe for his precious website and work about the Angels’ discography (every released albums with dates, line-up and labels there !!).
Hamster Atomique has a nice blog too with a lot of stuff about Australia and every Angels, Angelscity, Angelsband.
ALERT !!! EUCD.INFO…if you can read French have a look about this interesting review, if not just look at the evocative pics…
The new law about the copyrights seems to be only a part of the iceberg…even the musicians could lose the possibilities to give their own music to download in free mp3 files on their own websites…logic, no ?!
What are we waiting for ???

7/09/05 The Angels flying around Marseille

Meltingpod is back with a 50 minutes rock and roll show ! The Angelsband from Australia will be with us flying around Marseille to celebrate the half anniversary of Meltingpod.
Buzz Bidstrup the Angels’ drummer answered to my questions from his hotel room in Melbourne during their tour in Australia and you will have the pleasure to hear again the Angels old live versions of : « Marseille » and « Am I ever gonna to see your face again » until I get the new live album of the Angelsband and  » No secret » the song co-written by Buzz Bidstrup and Doc Neeson (who plays with his own band Red Phoenix at the moment).
We spoke with Buzz about the Angelsband’s new projects to tour Europe again, to come to Marseille for the first time (!!), his personal work as bands’ manager and projects’ developer with and for the Aborigenes. There even is a short appearance of one of his good friend…Chris Bailey !

The festival Oulala at Saint-Bonnet le château-Part Two, with the Saints in concert (+ some songs from cds too refering to Chris Bailey’s talk about his lyrics in the festival Part One : 12/07/05), Tokyo Sex Destruction from Barcelone in a funny melting Spanish-English interview and a political call recorded backstage with a technician-artist, in this new podcast.

12/07/05 Noisy Holidays in Hell with the Saints

Yes, it was good to to see the Saints and take holidays in hell with them in the hard land of France in Saint-Bonnet le Château at the festival Oulala ; a little far away from Marseille but I came back home with a precious noisy podcast with an interview of the band backstage and some live songs of the concert…special dedicated to the Saints’ fans and to the festival’s voluntary workers !

Nota : I would like to thank the festival Oulala for the press accreditation to do this report (pics and interviews backstage) Chris Bailey for his agreement to record the Saints live on stage and the Saints & Huggy their tour manager (Pbox) for their kindness.

30/05/05 Marseille without frontier

Thanks to Radio France International-Medias du Monde ! In their interview about Podcasting in France where I had the great honor to open and close (in a hot ambiance ! oh ! Laurence !) their show with Meltingpod, their expression « Annie’s rockers friends from Marseille » inspired me in my episode N°10 to let more place to « the strangers » who love playing in Marseille and gave me friendly their songs to play in my show; they are a good example of meltingpod: Adam Becware from the Black Halos (born in Brisbane- Australia, live in Chicago-USA), Michael Butler from American Heartbreak (born in Florida-live in San Francisco) and Chris Bailey from the Saints (born in Kenya-live after Belfast, Brisbane…at least in Amsterdam).
Adam played in the same band as Mike and was born in the city where Chris formed his band the Saints.
Some pictures I took during their concerts on the same stage in Marseille at different periods : Adam in 2003, Mike in 2002 and Chris in 2005.

14/05/05 Friends around the world

I have at least a new little mic, the same as before but it’s mine now !
The show about Europe Day comes late but we don’t care. In this new podcast, you will listen to the three bands who came to sing for Europe Day May 9th 2000 in Marseille; it was a little festival produced and managed by Eurocircle which was called : Europe Off !
I invite you for a long travel around the world : from Marseille to Melbourne (Australia), Berlin to San Francisco via Bahia (Brazil) with Silvio Ricarti, Sah’ra (Algeria-Kabylie) with Hakim Hammadouche and Montreal (Quebec) with the Magic reality of Balthazar. We don’t need passports !

Hakim, Silvio and Riad playing music at home, Mike playing guitar for me on the internet from his Rock and Roll Geek show studio in San Francisco, and a very nice big studio mic lent by my new sponsor the rock singer guitarist Bea Paradis from Sub Rosa.

9/04/05 Eating earth and drinking fire !

Some pictures where Chris Bailey from the Saints was joking on stage under my digital eyes’ shoots in the back of his guitarist who played a solo !!

In the new podcast, you will find some songs of the Saints’ last album and a short « interview » at the bar with Chris in a funny ambiance of laughs and noise of glasses’ wash up. Hope you will like it !
Some words from the unrecorded interview :
Christopher Bailey born 11/29/56 in Africa (Kenya), family’s origins from Northern Ireland, lived in Australia, England, Sweden, Amsterdam now, formed the Saints in 1973 :
« I can’t imagine the world without France : The people talk a lot here, give their opinion about everything, they fight to obtain the respect of their differences… they cut the kings’ head.
In Marseille people smiled to me : I felt me good here tonite on stage !
I’m not a rock star, I never want to be a pop star…I played with the Saints in little clubs and on very big stages, I was high and down…I continue because I love what I do, just playing music and meeting people.
I feel me guilty to speak with you during the other guys are carrying the gear…sorry I must help a few minutes !
Yes, I didn’t drink water on stage, I drank white wine ; I love French wines : I have friends of mine who give me sometimes their house’s keys in Bourgogne, and I take my bicycle on the little roads to go drink a little Chablis… »

More about Chris Bailey : this interview from Foster Child fanzine.
More pictures : the review of my dude photographer Pirlouiiiit from liveinmarseille/concertandco-marseille : we often are beside each other at rock concerts and do like a funny shoot’s competition to capture the best light of rockers’ attitudes; that night I chose to shoot him taking pictures and he shot me smiling to the music (cf my interview) !!

7/04/05 Burning Bush Tour !

To be precise, it’s the name of the European tour 2005 of The Saints ! They burned and seduced Marseille last night…ROCK AND ROLL in CAPITAL !!!
The club was absolutely packed and to take pictures I was crushed against the stage : though it was a good place to live the concert loud and near the source of the energy; from the first seconds the band and the audience were connected…shared pleasure !

(click to enlarge the last picture)

Then I made my very first live interview for my podcast…with Chris Bailey !! It was not scheduled but Chris accepted to play the interview after the concert even if he was very tired, even if I had a ridiculous record player without extern microphone which refused to restart when we moved from the bar to another quieter place to speak. But it was not really a problem for him, we continued the conversation without recording until we were the two last persons in the concert room and until the owner of the club shouted from the street he wanted to close !!
I will give you in my next podcast (soon) the 5 minutes saved from the punky trashy funny interview at the bar and I will try to write here on the blog some sentences I remember from the conversation after the record player’s crash.

8/04/05 : I just got an e-mail from Chris (still in tour during two weeks more) who gives me the agreement to play the songs of the last album : « Nothing is straight in my house« ; I forgot this famous night to ask his agreement for my podcast and for those who could not run to the next concert of the Saints in Europe. It’s OK now, we could burn our Bush together on podcast too !

3-04-05 Family stories

Today it’s a great day, you will find in my new show :
