Sounds and colors from the planet Marseille

14/11/05 Safe between the Angels and the Saints

Buzz Bidstrup, the Angelsband‘s drummer, songwriter, manager and producer, talks with me from Australia about copyrights, labels and agreements to play free music on the internet for non-profit podcasters who promote the bands : more a cool conversation than an classical interview. I played many songs of the Angels’ four first albums : « The Angels-Face to Face-No Exit-Dark Room » (1977 à 80 : Albert Productions) and the Angelsband’s last live album recorded at the Basement in Sidney in November 2004 (released by the Angelsband themselves). That’s Podsafe ?

Meltingpod Connections :
Thanks to Christophe for his precious website and work about the Angels’ discography (every released albums with dates, line-up and labels there !!).
Hamster Atomique has a nice blog too with a lot of stuff about Australia and every Angels, Angelscity, Angelsband.
ALERT !!! EUCD.INFO…if you can read French have a look about this interesting review, if not just look at the evocative pics…
The new law about the copyrights seems to be only a part of the iceberg…even the musicians could lose the possibilities to give their own music to download in free mp3 files on their own websites…logic, no ?!
What are we waiting for ???

3/11/05 1, 2, 3…Meltingvideopod N°1 !!

1,2,3…ROCK AND ROLL !!! I’m glad to offer you my first videopodcast, entirely devoted to promote the Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs from L.A…Yeah !
I don’t have a digital camcorder yet and I will use this new media in the next future ONLY to complete sometimes my podcasts and blog with Pictures&Action and spread the music I love like always.
I watched this SWC video many many times; Scott Patterson and his crew filmed this concert in Boston in 2001 with talent and a lot of love for the subject : it’s a real good job ! I hope you will like it too. This video is available on the SWC album : Guitars, Guns and Gold released by Triple X Records (video added to the cd by Wrong Beach Multimedia). If you’re lucky you can even buy the last copy…in Marseille…at Lollipop Records !!

Have a look on my other website myspace.com/meltingpod : there is a comment from Adam of the Black Halos and a funny article sent by a friend, someone called « The Brian Jones » (special girls, Stones’ fans) !!

27/10/05 I’m with the drummer !

Hilary is the drummer, a talentuous and beautiful woman, Christopher is her great and lucky bass guitarist; both formed a drum and bass band Sabot in 1988 in San Francisco, have been living for twelve years in Tabor-Czech Republic and are touring around the world the whole year…look at their website at concerts in 2005 !!
They played in Marseille a few weeks ago and I recorded their concert live with their agreement, did an interview backstage after the show (very nice people) and played a song « Tracking » from their self-made last album « Doing it ourselves » ! (click to enlarge the photo)

17/10/05 Stronger than the Hurricane !

The Black Halos (Vancouver-Canada) directly interviewed from Texas in the middle of the second hurricane…a special ambience; during a week I tried to reach Adam Becvare, The Black Halos’ guitarist and friend of mine, on his cell phone during their US tour for an interview planned since months…and at least I just reached him on the way between Florida and Texas at the worst period…he sounded very tired after hours spent in the van in the middle of the chaos of evacuated people but they are continuing the tour to promote their new album « Alive without control » and I’m giving you to listen to some songs of this punk rock and roll stronger than hurricanes ! Hey girls, look at this video where these sexy guys are playing in a peep show for girls…and be ready, they are coming soon to Europe !
Thanks Manny …:)

6/10/05 Right to Rock

Waiting for the Death of my Generation…! the Streetwalkin’Cheetahs are still alive ! In this show you will hear some songs from their album I got in 2002 after their last concert in Marseille before the band broke up…today they are reforming the original band in L.A. where they are living with some ideas for the future…an interview with « the Rock Bomb », Frank Meyer the SWC singer and guitarist will give you a lot of informations about the band’s new projects, the song’s lyrics, the rock concerts in Los Angeles with sometimes porn stars as support band, the new book Frank co-wrote about the Ramones on the road, Sweet Justice the new band he built to stay in form…Sometimes they are interesting people in the USA we must not forget it and I love them ! SWC is in the Teenage Head Music‘s roster.

Marseille loves the Normans : Always a pleasure to get such support from you, Cyrille ! Bon vent to the Transat 2005 !

Our Hamster Atomique announces he loves others bands than the Angels (he loves the Ramones too) and is opening a new website for the Dandy Warhols where I’m noticed as his favorite podcast in the world : hey hey !

14/09/05 The royal sweepers of the luxury desert

Podcast N°20 ! Meltingpod invites you to jump in the Orient Express to an unknown destination talking with Chalmi (Michel Augier) about his band from Marseille « les Balayeurs du desert » and about his musical creation with Royal de Luxe, one of the most famoust street theater company in France and in the world. 7/09/05 The Angels flying around Marseille

Meltingpod is back with a 50 minutes rock and roll show ! The Angelsband from Australia will be with us flying around Marseille to celebrate the half anniversary of Meltingpod.
Buzz Bidstrup the Angels’ drummer answered to my questions from his hotel room in Melbourne during their tour in Australia and you will have the pleasure to hear again the Angels old live versions of : « Marseille » and « Am I ever gonna to see your face again » until I get the new live album of the Angelsband and  » No secret » the song co-written by Buzz Bidstrup and Doc Neeson (who plays with his own band Red Phoenix at the moment).
We spoke with Buzz about the Angelsband’s new projects to tour Europe again, to come to Marseille for the first time (!!), his personal work as bands’ manager and projects’ developer with and for the Aborigenes. There even is a short appearance of one of his good friend…Chris Bailey !

3/09/05 Obsessive me ?

Oh ! I only want to know who was Oscar Wilde really in details (complete works, bios, letters, lawsuit’s stories) : la rentrée littéraire de Meltingpod !
One of the most amazing book until now is « Teleny » : Oscar is only supposed to be the author of this « true » story : if he wrote that book in the context of England at that time he couldn’t sign it without signing his death sentence. I found this book in a public library in Marseille discreetly listed under « Physiological study » ! Even read in a French translation I heard Oscar’s voice in my head (or maybe an other man ?) telling a part of his life. I found a German fan on the web who wrote about this book : « Die schönste Liebesgeschichte der Welt » (la plus belle histoire d’amour du monde); a French fan wrote : better than the poppers ! …I encourage you to read it and give your opinion !

Left pile is already read, right pile is in working…I fear to have been too « gourmande » !
To stay a very short moment with the intellectuals (don’t worry), I answered to a request of France Culture, one of the most important and famous public French radio, who recorded last Thursday a live show in Marseille’s center about…city planning.
I was not invited as city planner but as DJ to propose for free a choice of songs I already played in my meltingpod podcast to integrate into their show !! Surprise or not a few days later they didn’t spread anything of my music in their show « Travaux Publics » : my rock and roll was censured without a word of explanation : not cool !

25/08/05 Oscar Wilde, Agape and the indecent theology

I recommand you to read Oscar Wilde again specially « De profundis » if you find it before listening to my new podcast and the interview I recorded in North of Italy. The Saints and Chris Bailey will accompany you with some quiet songs during this curious ballad with the Vaudois of Agape in their wild valley of the Germanasca.
Why an interview of Agape ? in part because of Oscar Wilde. Why Oscar Wilde ? because of the Saints’ interview I did in July. Don’t be afraid here are some powerful witches met in Lithuania’s forest to protect you in this diving to the Paradise !

Special dedication to my father, to Myriam from Jerusalem, to the Irish people and to Pascal from San Francisco (fan of the Saints and various pagan deities) !

13/08/05 Rock around the Baltic

Come and dance with Pelenai a rock band from Lithuania : I recorded their concert and an interview of the band in Nida near the Baltic during a hot night of August. Then to save your soul, a celestial song in a Franciscan church in Vilnius…Enjoy the music and the ambiance !
