7/05/06 Walpurgis night (Berlin part 2)

I invite you to Walpurgis night (April 30th) in Berlin-Friedrishain (ex-East Berlin) with A.C.K. a punk band from Frankfurt am Main who is singing lyrics in German very involved in politics specially against racism and fascism. The whole night the ambience was electric hesitating between a ritual civil urban war like for every 1st of May in Berlin-Kreuzberg or only a provocation to the police for fun…I let you dive in the sound and hear the story in both languages English and German. Thanks to Ralf, Markus and Gisbert, my partners in this adventure.

The concert with A.C.K. with the police’s presence everywhere; from 10:pm the police « began cleaning the place » but it was possible to escape in a bar and look at their operations throught the window : surrealistic for me !

2/05/06 May in Berlin

I survived after three nights in Berlin hearing tons of bands often more punk than rock !
It already began in the plane to Berlin : by coincidence, I sat down beside a 70’s legendary punk rock band from London and I did a funny interview with them !! Then I ran to Wild at Heart for two concerts.
The second day was reserved to the Walpurgis night in Friedrichshain with music in the street and a very special ballet ritually and regularly improved by the German police : fight or not fight ?
The whole May 1st, Kreuzberg the neighborhood where I lived, was traditionnaly destroyed by conflicts with the police; this year : one unique burning trash and the police stayed under control ! « My fest » directly managed by Kreuzberg’s citizens offered a lot of different kind of music from 2 pm to 3 am with many bands on 11 stages. I stayed most of the time near the punk stage but I listened to a lot of good world music too. I recorded 5 x 80 minutes of shows, ambiance in the streets and interviews : good podcasts are coming soon…:)

19/04/06 Three men with Wild at Heart

Michael Butler and his band from San Francisco American Heartbreak (the new album is realeased !!), Adam Becvare from Chicago and the LustKillers (a new song not still released and an interview in tour after The Black Halos‘ concert in Nice), Manny Montana from Belgium with the Ones (an old song) who is with TeenageHeadMusic a passionated European tour manager for rockers ONLY !!! : I met Mike and Adam in spring 2001 in Marseille and a few months later the three together with Manny at Wild at Heart-Berlin : I’m happy to have those guys as friends and introduce to you now their new and old songs. Without forgetting to mention Mike with his podcast « the Rock and Roll Geek Show » is the male companion of Meltingpod !!!

Meltingpod Connections :
Sandra Smith was the photographer who took our pic with Billy in Nice ! She found me through myspace : funny coincidence, she was at the Lords of the New Church‘s show in Marseille in 2003 and Adam posted her pics beside mine on his site. BTW : If you want to check how was the Black Halos’ success among the hottest girls from Europe, have a look on Billy’s myspace site : in fact the situation was not as hopeless as he said !

31/01/06 Forbidden fruit must be tasted

Lola Spinner from Paris under the Meltingpod spotlight today with two songs from their last album Shadow : « Forbidden fruit and Make it yourself », and two very new songs (December 2005) : « Secret to a silence and Ground Zero ». A few days ago I met for the first time Dave Hawkes, their guitarist and a Meltingpod faithful listener : we have fun together walking trough Paris by night, hearing, speaking, drinkink, eating only rock and roll…it’s a drug ! there is an short interview with him for you in a bar.

26/01/06 Oscar Wilde and me !

I promised to myself, next stop to Paris, to go and visit Oscar Wilde in his grave at Pere Lachaise’s cimetery. A passion for this man grew after my interview with Chris Bailey from the Saints, last summer…I read almost everything from him like an obsession…this meeting in the graveyard was moving as you could hear in this short podcast…I chosen two texts to read there : his famous talk during his trial for homosexuality in 1895 « the loves that dares not speak its name » and a part of the poem « the Sphinx »…the giant sculpture on his tomb offered by a woman who loved him represented…a sphinx and it was covered with lipstick-kisses; a luck I had a nice red lipstick too that morning…I dedicate that show to Chris (thanks for the connection) and to Garfieldd (courage !).
Music : The Marquis of Queensberry and Edgar Alan Poe from Chris Bailey (Demons); Everybody loves you when you’re dead from Kitty Hudson (London).

The French National Assembly’s deputy Frederic Dutoit is planning a meeting in Marseille February 9th at 6 p:m in his townhall (15ème/16ème) to work with the people involved by the DADVSI law’s project; he proposed to me to help him to invite artists, podcasters, internet surfers, labels (send a comment or e-mail if you want to come) and do the podcast of the meeting : obviously (with a thought to Oscar Wilde’s mother) I accepted !

27/11/05 The Aborigines love punk and roll !

Lars Wallin from Uddevalla-Sweden is the guest today with some of my favorite Saints and Chris Bailey’s songs from the albums Eternally hours, All fool days, Scarce Saints and Demons. Lars sang in a punk rock band the Strawdogs, is as big Saints’ fan as me, now is playing didgeridoo and touring with an aborigines band from Australia : the White Cockatoo…sometimes he plays The Saints songs with his didgeridoo…you understood why I was attracted…nice meltingpod ! I met him only on the internet through his very interesting website, with a lot of Saints’pics and videos (in 2003 and 2005). I recommand you : Chris Bailey and the local Saints (a bunch of Lars’ friends); the sound is not very good but the show is very exciting. The White Cockatoo’s videos are amazing (tour 2005 : Kunkurra, Tiwi Warrior, Liftaren…). I hope I could do something to divert their European tour until Marseille next year…

I did spontaneous interviews with strangers for me : who are you ? what are you doing here ? …funny experience and I had the surprise to meet people very involved to improve our society…I’ll post next time the whole interviews with Claudia from Portugal, Adela from Romania, Hanife from Turkey : nice passionated women !!
I hope you will follow me in this new adventure (how do you say « aphrodisiac in your country ? hey !)…For those of you who only loves rock and roll…in a few days, I will post a rock podcast as usual, don’t worry…But you must accept the terrible reality : I AM A MELTINGPOD !! Come on !

In France, we can only sing : SACEM, we are not criminals!

27/10/05 I’m with the drummer !

Hilary is the drummer, a talentuous and beautiful woman, Christopher is her great and lucky bass guitarist; both formed a drum and bass band Sabot in 1988 in San Francisco, have been living for twelve years in Tabor-Czech Republic and are touring around the world the whole year…look at their website at concerts in 2005 !!
They played in Marseille a few weeks ago and I recorded their concert live with their agreement, did an interview backstage after the show (very nice people) and played a song « Tracking » from their self-made last album « Doing it ourselves » ! (click to enlarge the photo)

25/08/05 Oscar Wilde, Agape and the indecent theology

I recommand you to read Oscar Wilde again specially « De profundis » if you find it before listening to my new podcast and the interview I recorded in North of Italy. The Saints and Chris Bailey will accompany you with some quiet songs during this curious ballad with the Vaudois of Agape in their wild valley of the Germanasca.
Why an interview of Agape ? in part because of Oscar Wilde. Why Oscar Wilde ? because of the Saints’ interview I did in July. Don’t be afraid here are some powerful witches met in Lithuania’s forest to protect you in this diving to the Paradise !

Special dedication to my father, to Myriam from Jerusalem, to the Irish people and to Pascal from San Francisco (fan of the Saints and various pagan deities) !
