I got a lot of pictures from my listeners in 2007 and I promised to choose some of them to publish on Meltingpod : so you could appreciate the work of some of these great passionated rock photographers :
Sandra Smith a French woman who made the trip to London October 31th to see one of her favorite bands : The Lords of the New Church with :

At least Errol Laggner an Australian man who had the privilege to be at the big rock event scheduled December 15th at Wollongong in Australia « Rock and Roll Heaven » with a lot of the greatest Aussie rock bands like Rose Tattoo, the Angelsband, The Screaming Jets, Choirboys, GANGgajang, The Radiators, Party Boys playing together raising money to build the Dunn & Lewis Memorial Youth Centre; Errol sent me many many pics but I haven’t a pics gallery on this blog and I just chose GANGgajang a band I interviewed without having recent live pics to illustrate my last podcast with :
 
Geoff Stapleton, Mark Callaghan, Robert James, Chris Bailey and…Buzz Bidstrup ! + a part of this great line-up at the Rock and Roll Heaven with :

Geoff Stapleton, Robert James, Rick Brewster, (John’s son, Tom Brewster who replaced Buzz on the drums with the Angelsband : Buzz played with GANGgajang and the Party Boys on that show), Kevin Borich, John Brewster, Daï Pritchard, Dave Gleeson, Angry Anderson and Buzz !!
A great emotion watching that pic and thinking I did interviews with almost all these musicians the last three years thank to Buzz…:)
So thank you again Sandra, Helene and Errol and thank to you all who sent me your pics or comments the whole last year and actively participated to the Meltingpod’s life !!

CaVe CaNeM (Fred & Julien) Lars Wallin & his live band (ph. bands websites)

At least fresh news from the rock bands at Marseille after a whole year speaking only about Australia !! I know a lot of listeners found my choice not well-balanced so this year 2008 I will try to honour my reputation of the first French-Australian rock podcast but I will try to record more live shows in my town or around the world who knows ?
In this podcast we start with CaVe CaNeM a new band from Marseille with Fred De Benedetti (guitar vocals) and Julien Lemonnier (tenor sax vocals), both programming their computer (the third member on stage !!) with two songs : « Chez les parents de Cécile » and Fast car ». I got their promo album after their live incredible show at the machine à coudre last Friday; they recorded it in one day, at the first take : everything is « home made » !!!
The way I love the music and the musicians !!

Through the same way Yolka another new band from Marseille is writting and recording song by song (they got two) at home with Pascal Ferrari at the guitar (+ computer) and Karolina at the vocals (in Polish); I played their last song Zima and I can’t wait to listen to the new ones !
Then Lars Wallin from Udevalla-Sweden who just released his first album « Bangardi Pogo »: I chose his song « On the road to Maningrida »…a road I hope to take one day myself (with him ?) in the Northern Territories in Australia to meet his aboriginal friends. He recorded the album at the first take too in 6 hours + a little bit bass, guitar, handclaps and cajun drum added in the studio at the end. Emotion guaranteed !
Then « Dune Messiah » : a song from Buffalo a famous Australian band from the seventies with Dave Tice at the vocals, John Baxter at the guitar, Pete Wells at the bass (who later formed Rose Tattoo) and Jimmy Economou on the drums; you could find it in their album released in 74 freshly called : « Only want you for your body » !!
Thanks to Michael from “Sittin in a bar in Adelaïde” for his greetings to me from Australia with the Angels (John Brewster and Chris Bailey) !!

BTW : More about Pascal Ferrari in THIS PODCAST I recorded with him in May 2005 as well about Lars Wallin with THAT PODCAST recorded in November 2005 and you could also find Fred De Benedetti with his other band Kill the thrill in THIS PODCAST recorded in June 2005 : you could follow the evolution of these musicians and my progress in English…:)

In this second part of the interview with ED KUEPPER about his new album : Jean Lee and the yellow dog, we continue to talk quietly about the new album and his projects for touring in 2008 until walking a little in Ed’s garden trying to record the extraordinary insects who live around his house and who invited themselves to the conversation : the « tsychades » from Brisbane !!! Still a new unexpected connection with Marseille !!

One day I will play you the original version « Bob ascends the heavenly staircase » Ed sent me at my request to improve my musical knowleges : cool to find such a music teacher !! ED KUEPPER‘s interview about his new album : Jean Lee and the yellow dog at least on Meltingpod !!! Which best present for Christmas could I offer to you ? Ed really took the time to enter in the details of the whole music process during this new album’s conception and why he chose to relate this true story about Jean Lee a prostitute who was the first woman hang in Australia in 1951 ! As always Ed is very sincere and precise and I couldn’t cut anything in his talk. So I proposed to you to listen to that podcast in two parts of 30 mn ! I hope you will appreciate to share with us this interesting conversation, specially those of you who love Ed Kuepper and THE SAINTS : Ed Kuepper formed the Saints with Chris Bailey in the 70’s before starting a long solo carrier until now with sometimes live bands to perform some shows. Right now he is playing with the Kowalski Collective including two long time partners like Jeffrey Wegener on the drums and Peter Oxley at the bass. I played a lot of the album ‘s excerpts to illustrate the talk, including Chris Bailey ‘s great appearance in one of these songs !!

For the Tatts fans : the third one was Angry Anderson singing « Highway to Hell » with a rocky girl !! We stay in family with RocKwiz…:) and you know what ? Julia Zemiro the nice hostess of this show was born at Aix en Provence, 30 km from Marseille !! French girls rule !!!

GANGgajang introducing their production to the world !

GANGgajang is an Australian band formed in 1984 which is in fact for me Buzz Bidstrup’s family and friends. This GANG is a collective of creative individualities who are all active in different areas the whole year and who join each other sometimes for a tour or some shows : it’s maybe the secret of their long friendship and the fact the band still is alive and happy together right now !
I recorded that « interview » last February 2007 on Buzz’s mobile so the sound quality is not perfect but I hope you will have fun to listen to it. They were heading a show at Perth Western Australia and they spoke to me just before jumping on stage so they are all very excited !!
Special guests : I opened the show with Buzz’son DJ Climax ended with Buzz’s wife Kay who sang in the band with her sister Marylin in the earlier days and I play a song from my friend Ed Kuepper « the way I made you feel » to thank MELTINGWORLDS‘s first happy donators who are all Ed’s and Saints’ fans and I hope surely now will become GANGgajang’s fans too !
At the end an extract of the Pig City Concert at Brisbane July 14th with the Riptides a band formed with a lot of GANGgajang‘s members.

After this first connection, I thought to record a lot of individuals interviews later but Buzz as you know is the Bon Scott Celebration Concert‘s artistic director and after their successfull performance in February 2007, the CD’s launch last October, he is organizing right now the new show February 24th 2008 to erect the statue for Bon Scott with the collected money. If I add for the new listeners Buzz is also the co-director of the Jimmy Little Foundation who worked to give an healthier future for the Indignous Australians and was the whole year the Angels‘ and Party Boys’ drummer…you know what I mean… there never was enough free time for him to do something more with me than this podcast. Maybe later…who knows ?
Anyway I recommand to you to try to order their DVD about more than 20 years with videos, interviews, their very successfull tour to Brazil…it’s a true pleasure to watch them making music in this ambience of family.

Punk atttitude on stage : Olivier from the Hatepinks and Ingi from the Gee Strings at Marseille last week (my pic from Olivier is old, I still haven’t a new digital camera but my friend Luccio the Frog had one and took for me this one from Ingi !) Billy Hopeless from the Black Halos at Nice in 2006. Speaking about that band my friend Adam Becvare (Black Halos’ guitarist) played last week at London with the Lords of the New Church again. He sent me a link to a podcast (Yes I know I missed something !!) from THE LORDS LIVE FOR HALLOWEEN HERE !! Thanks Adam for that and (added Nov 9th) for the fine report from « the inside the show » straight ahead from Chicago !! Read it at the end of the review « Meltingpod Connections »!!!

Punk history : Buzzcocks Pete Shelley and Steve Diggle around my friend Luccio the Frog after a show in France 2006.

This picture I found in Luccio’s pics’ album remembers me one of my funniest podcaster’s memory !!! So here is a kind of punk story : Pete Shelley and Steve Diggle were my anonymous neighbours in a plane during three hours flying to Berlin in May 2006 …I just asked him politely where they were coming from when I sat down near Steve, crushed in a full up Boeing; he answered very shortly : « London ! » Pete friendly added : « and you ? ah ! Marseille, nice city ! » That was all for one hour…I was tired and almost asleep on Steve’s shoulder until I saw his tattoo on his arm : « Hey the Saint on your tattoo ! I did an interview with them »; Steve : « which one ? Roger Moore ? » Me : « Euh ! No ! Chris Bailey ! » Steve : « ah ! the Saintsssss, I’m Stranded ! hey Pete she interviewed Chris Bailey from the Saints ! » Pete : « ah ! yes ! I’m Stranded ! » and nothing more for one hour, we were the three almost asleep until we were flying above Berlin. Suddently I heard the air hostess asking them what they were doing at Berlin; answer : « we’re a rock band and we are touring Europe ! ». I thought a rock band touring in a plane ? strange, but I plugged my microphone with a podcaster’s instinct; they asked me : « oh ! an interview ? » Me : « No, just say your name, the name of your band and you are listening to Meltingpod  » the rest in on MY BERLINER PUNK PODCAST…ahaha ! At the airport Steve took a photo from me and someone in the band told me : « hey, Annie, you will become famous with that picture » ! I said goodbye with laughing. Nice story ?…:)

Meltingpod Connections : Update November 15th
Have a look on my last pics and a listen to this very funny PODCAST INTERVIEW with JEAN-LOUIS COSTES an incredible French rocker who performs trash theater shows. I met him at Marseille last week just after he finished to play his last 50 minutes show « Little birds shit » and he made directly after that a second 40 minutes show just for MELTINGTALKS !!!

What would ROCK AND ROLL be without THE GIRLS ???!!! Every rockers I interviewed for the Woman Show (what’s the best part being a rocker?) told me first the music on stage is their life and they couldn’t imagine doing anything else, but it’s rare if two minutes later (maybe one ??) they didn’t mention THE GIRLS !! Yes, Girls can be exciting groupies, faithful fans and friends but photographers and reporters too, often very talentuous (some of them even are podcasters now !!). So today I chose to publish with their agreement the work from some of them who shared with me their emotion in front of the stage or backstage during these last days or months (click to enlarge the pictures)…Enjoy !! It’s just a beginning because…

My friends, Clair who had the luck to go to the Bon Scott Celebration Concert‘s Cd’s launch at Perth October 19th and Grant who was enough lucky on his side to see Rose Tattoo at the Hard Rock Cafe at Brisbane October 20th, shared instantly with me the pics from their show (Thanks Clair to offer me this cool pic with Buzz !! toooo cute !!)…
What could I do on my side at Marseille Sunday 21th to forget the frustration ?…to answer positively to a friend of mine FamFinale de la Matière who proposed to me to go to the theater La Minoterie (my second home a few years ago I was very happy to see again) and watch…a rarity from Jean-Luc Godard my favorite French films maker !! a giant movie 5 hours long !!! which is modestly called : History (ies) of the Cinema !!!
What a fun to share with around 100 hards fans this incredible kaleidoscope : a true artistic and political manifesto…very Frenchy but hey ! Godard’s world is a part of my own selective memory : Wenders, Fellini, Bunuel, Cassavettes, Picasso, Gauguin, Baudelaire, Oscar Wilde, Leo Ferré…we were literaly bombed during 5 hours with somptuous pictures and brilliant words…not sure that someone will find the courage to adapt this movie in English one day but it will be interesting to share this treasure with the world too.
Back home I had this idea to show you in this quick Meltingpics my own kaleidoscope of the week end, from Australia to Marseille !! Enjoy !

« When Mick Cocks meets Ed Kuepper » was the title you avoided at the last minute because I don’t want to fool you about the reality of such a meeting but I hope I will maybe be able to organize it one day…:) Anyway I reunited them in this podcast with the shortest interview ever recorded in the world (!!) with Mick Cocks Rose Tattoo‘s guitarist at Hamburg and the both versions of Erotic Neurotic I played at the end : a live version with Ed Kuepper and the Aints (SLSQ- 93) and the studio version with the Original Saints (I’m Stranded-76). It was very heavy to edit this podcast after so long months of forced silence and a very bad moment in my life with too much questions in my head all the time…do I stop, do I continue, how…?
I chose to start at the beginning with the motorcycles in The Harley Days at Hamburg (July 14th) through the last live recording with the minidisc, the tests with the voice recorder (which has a bad quality as expected), then a noisy silence without computer (from August 31th until this week) where I tried to find some solutions with you maybe now : JOIN MELTINGWORLDS!!!
Update October 22th : the Meltingworlds’ happy donators can click now on the kangaroo !!! (right colum on this blog)…next stop ULURU !!!

Aussierock.com.au is a new website introducing all the Aussie hard rock bands who played the Bon Scott Celebration Concert in February 2007 : you could find there a lot of information about the bands, live photos, extracts of live videos (including the Angels band : Marseille and Am I ever gonna see your face again, Rose Tattoo : Man about town, The Party Boys with Dave Evans (AC/DC’s first singer) : Baby please don’t go and more…+ the possibility to order the CD from the concert which will be launched with a great rock show October 19th 2007 at Perth (The Metro) with the Angels band, the Party Boys including two AC/DC’s ex-members Dave Evans and Mark Evans, AC/DC tribute bands 21 Guns and Hell Bells ! Another show is scheduled October 21 th at Claremont with the Angels and 21 Guns.

Sometimes I have the feeling I live myself in Australia (a lot of people think that too !!) and I ask myself if Meltingpod is not becoming an Australian rock podcast !!! I know there are many months I only spoke about them, I try to resist to the attraction but they are too charming…look how these Aussie rockers are elegant and gallant to give me now the first place above such famous bands on their links page !!

What can I do ?… I will try to stay an authentic woman from Marseille giving news from my town but I think the direction is taken to integrate regurlarly the Australian rock news in my blog and podcasts with the help of so many Australian listeners and Meltingpod’s friends. I hope you will appreciate it. If not let me know.

Meltingpod Connections Update October 10th
Today I thought I need to live again in my town, not only through the internet most of the time in Australia and who is coming to Marseille tonight ?? Steve Tallis a musician from Perth Western Australia !!! He is playing at l’Intermédiaire (Place Jean Jaurès) around 10:30 pm; I « met » Steve one year ago on myspace and if he is here today it’s not a real coincidence as you can imagine…:) If you live in the town come to the show !!! Steve is fantastic !!And I spoke again about Australia…:)

Update (10/5) to answer to Michael’s comment : It’s not me on the pic with Mick Cocks, it’s Brenda !! (she lives at Brisbane). Maybe this little story behind the pic sent by Brenda will help you to appreciate it better.
« As Rose Tattoo started to leave stage, I ran past security and yelled to Mick, « please can I have a photo it’s for Annie in Marseille » he stopped with a big big smile and posed a shot. Then later when Motorhead came out he came up to me from security area and waved so I went to him again and Airbourne guitarist took the shot of the two of us for you ! ».


Brenda (on the pic’s left) sent me that pic with that text : « I told Mick the photo was for you so his smile is for you my love !! »
Aren’t they both nice ? aaah ! Aussie rock and roll hearts…I love you !!

Motorhead – Tatts – Airbourne gig in Newcastle NSW (06.10.07) was fantastic; A huge gathering of black T shirts – which doesn’t happen often up here; Airbourne continue to get the crowds vote with the energy & traditional rock banter by Mr O’Keefe (singer / guitarists) plenty of “hey hey hey” fists in the air stuff – I’d seen them 3 times previous, thought the sound was a bit messy – but who wants it “nice”?
