Sounds and colors from the planet Marseille

26/01/06 Oscar Wilde and me !

I promised to myself, next stop to Paris, to go and visit Oscar Wilde in his grave at Pere Lachaise’s cimetery. A passion for this man grew after my interview with Chris Bailey from the Saints, last summer…I read almost everything from him like an obsession…this meeting in the graveyard was moving as you could hear in this short podcast…I chosen two texts to read there : his famous talk during his trial for homosexuality in 1895 « the loves that dares not speak its name » and a part of the poem « the Sphinx »…the giant sculpture on his tomb offered by a woman who loved him represented…a sphinx and it was covered with lipstick-kisses; a luck I had a nice red lipstick too that morning…I dedicate that show to Chris (thanks for the connection) and to Garfieldd (courage !).
Music : The Marquis of Queensberry and Edgar Alan Poe from Chris Bailey (Demons); Everybody loves you when you’re dead from Kitty Hudson (London).

The French National Assembly’s deputy Frederic Dutoit is planning a meeting in Marseille February 9th at 6 p:m in his townhall (15ème/16ème) to work with the people involved by the DADVSI law’s project; he proposed to me to help him to invite artists, podcasters, internet surfers, labels (send a comment or e-mail if you want to come) and do the podcast of the meeting : obviously (with a thought to Oscar Wilde’s mother) I accepted !

06/01/06 The French National Assembly rocks !

Frédéric Dutoit deputy of the French National Assembly is on MELTINGTALKS (my second podcast devoted to interviews and debates) and answered to my questions during 40 minutes about the law’s project DADVSI. He called the podcasters and bloggers to be present in a big public democratic discussion about the way to protect the artists rights and the liberty on the internet. I’m sorry the interview only is in French !

Another French cultural exception ? France : first country in the world to legalize the P2P ? Illimited music downloading to the non profit user for 7 euros a month… ? Christmas miracle ?
Incredible night in the French National Assembly (almost empty) who had to vote December 23th one of the most repressive law about the musical files’ exchanges and free downloading on the internet (DADVSI) with the Digital Right Management’s setup … Continuer la lecture de 24/12/05 Christmas’ miracle ?

5/12/05 Marseilles : The Angels’ song !

John Brewster, The Angels band‘ guitarist, singer and songwriter of the famous song « Marseilles » is my guest today with Buzz Bidstrup , the drummer, a Meltingpod regular visitor ! The Angels band were in tour in Australia and I called them on Buzz’s cell phone during their interesting activities before playing a show : driving too fast because being late, doing the soundcheck, quickly eating and before springing on stage…answering to Meltingpod and promising to sing Marseilles for Annie !
The first song in the show « Dreambuilder » comes from the first album « The Angels » (released in 1977 by Albert) with Doc Neeson at the vocals.
The new version of Marseilles (released the first time in the album « Face to Face » in 1978) comes from the Angels band’s last live album recorded at the Basement in Sydney in November 2004 (released in 2005).

Meltingpod Connections:
Thanks to Loic Le Meur from the French radio station Europe 2 who chose to promote Meltingpod so friendly. You will find in his website a long version (9mn) of his interview with me.
Thanks to my friend Michael Butler who is playing for me a cool rock song called « Annie » from Copperpot on his last podcast in « the rock and roll geek indie cast and who introduced me to the song « Marseilles »!!
EUCD.info always is fighting against the vote of the DADVSI (examination at the National Assembly December 20 and 21th) : help their action ! help yourself ! this law is totally crazy for everybody ! Luc launched a forum on his website about this subject called the eStalinisme !

27/11/05 The Aborigines love punk and roll !

Lars Wallin from Uddevalla-Sweden is the guest today with some of my favorite Saints and Chris Bailey’s songs from the albums Eternally hours, All fool days, Scarce Saints and Demons. Lars sang in a punk rock band the Strawdogs, is as big Saints’ fan as me, now is playing didgeridoo and touring with an aborigines band from Australia : the White Cockatoo…sometimes he plays The Saints songs with his didgeridoo…you understood why I was attracted…nice meltingpod ! I met him only on the internet through his very interesting website, with a lot of Saints’pics and videos (in 2003 and 2005). I recommand you : Chris Bailey and the local Saints (a bunch of Lars’ friends); the sound is not very good but the show is very exciting. The White Cockatoo’s videos are amazing (tour 2005 : Kunkurra, Tiwi Warrior, Liftaren…). I hope I could do something to divert their European tour until Marseille next year…
